Dupion silk, also known as raw silk, is woven from two different colored thread, red and black, producing dark red effect. Dupioni is made from an irregular, rough silk reeled from double cocoons or cocoons spun side-by-side which are interlocked, making it necessary to reel them together.
The classic dupioni silk cloth is made with a tight plain weave, fine warp yarns and heavier, slubbed filling yarns that form prominent, irregular crosswise ribs. Silk dupioni fabric is light to medium in weight, with a crisp, scrunchy hand, a rough, uneven texture and a dull luster. It is usually dyed brilliant colors and is often iridescent or plaid, but it may also be natural in color or bleached white.
We have a family run Handloom woven silk factory based in India with over 2000 weavers at disposal. We are a JOANNS STORE approved vendor for their Silk collection and one of the largest producers of hand woven dupion silk fabric in India. We supply to international markets, primarily USA, Canada, Europe, Mexico and Brazil Silk Dupion Swatch
